The Italian gold regulation: the ownership of investment gold, gold bar and coins and the buy and selling of these items are regulated by the Law 7 of 17 January 2000 which adapts the Italian legislation to the European standard, allowing the
purchase and sale of investment gold exempt from VAT.

The VAT exemption is provided if savers and investors purchase through “Professional Gold Operators” authorised and registered in the
Register drawn up, and controlled, by the Italian National banking institute.

In July 2012 Gioielli di Valenza Spa obtained the enrolment in the Register of Professional Operators in Gold No 5 005 343.

Legislation on sale

From 1 July 2014 the capital gain arising from the sale of investment gold is equivalent to any other financial income.

A tax of 26% is applied on the capital gain, that is, on the difference between the selling and the purchase price.

There could be two methods of calculations:
• with purchase document
• without purchase document

With purchase document

It must be paid at the rate of 26% of the amount of the capital gain if the documentation of the purchase has been kept.
Example:

D) Tax due = (26% of C)

Without purchase document

If you do not have the document proving the purchase (eg. inheritance, gift, etc…) will be applied the rate of 26% on 25% of the market
value at the time of sale.

D) Tax due = (26% of C)
